nikola_tesla2Nikola Tesla was born on July 10, 1856 in Smiljan, Austrian Empire (which is modern day Croatia) and died on January 7, 1943 in New York City, New York at the age of 86. His father Milutin Tesla, was a Serbian Orthodox priest and his mother Duka Tesla, was an inventor in her own right, creating home craft tools and mechanical appliances. Nikola Tesla was known as an inventor, but was also known for being an electrical and mechanical engineer, a physicist and a futurist.Did you know that Nikola Tesla obtained 300 patents for his inventions during his lifetime that we know of? As some of his inventions did not have patent protection. His patents were not only in the United States, but also in Britain, Canada as well as many other countries around the globe. Even though he made a great deal of money from his patents and the selling of his AC electricity patents, he spent lots of money on numerous experiments and when Tesla died in 1943, he died impoverished and in debt.Nikola Tesla is best identified for his assistance in the design of the modern alternating current (AC) electrical supply system, which included a motor, transformer, and 3-phase electricity, but did you know he also invented the Tesla induction motor and the Tesla Coil.Tesla’s AC Induction Motor is used in industry and household appliances around the world. His achievement of developing polyphase alternating current system of generators, motors and transformers is what is keeping the world in light. The Tesla Coil, invented in 1891 is an electrical resonant transformer circuit and is used to produce high-voltage, low-current, and high frequency alternating-current electricity which is widely used in radio, television sets, and in other electric equipment today.Throughout his life Nikola Tesla was always inventing. Without his inventions, where would the world be today? In the words of Nikola Tesla “let the future tell the truth, and evaluate each one according to his work and accomplishments. The present is theirs; the future, for which I have really worked, is mine.” – Nikola TeslaFor Further Reading:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/http://www.teslasociety.com/biography.htmhttp://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/authors/n/nikola_tesla.htmlI myself find Tesla very interesting, He was a great futurist, always inventing new ideas, and he filed many patents. Without his new invention ideas, where would be today? Nikola Tesla is fascinating. Jessica Vann
